Windmill
de Roos
De Roos is the only remaining mill of the 18 mills that once operated in Delft. Today, the Roos is a vibrant, open and working icon of Delft, where you can experience craftsmanship, technology, history and culture. Every week, powered by the wind, the Roos grinds organic grain into flour.

You can drop in for a visit during opening hours. Admission is free. You can go straight up into the mill yourself. But be careful: the stairs are steep. The only safe way is facing the stairs both up and down.
Upstairs you will find guides or millers who will be happy to show you the mill and tell you more about it. They also do this during events such as National Mills Days and Open Monuments Days.

the shop
In the Mill Shop you can buy sourdough bread, buns and biscuits made by our own bakers in the Mill Bakery. You will also find everything you need to bake your own bread, including expert advice. The different types of flour and oatmeal are ground on stone by the power of the wind in our own mill.
Since 2019 there is a beautiful garden next to windmill De Roos. The garden was created and is lovingly maintained by volunteers. You can enter freely. There is a bench at the back where you can sit and relax and enjoy the view of the mill.
The garden has a wide variety of plants. Different kinds of plants bloom in every season of the year. And of course there are the grain patches where you can see the grain that will be ground at the mill. The herbs grown in the mill garden are used in the bakery.
Welcome to the miller’s café Bij de Roos, located in the old miller’s house. Throughout the year we bake bread and rolls in Bij de Roos. You can also attend workshops there throughout the year.
The miller’s café Bij de Roos has a seasonal opening: between the National Windmill Days in May and the Open Monument Days in September, you can come and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, a slice of sourdough bread, a homemade roll and, on warm days, a glass of fresh syrup.
